Zahra Zavareh
Visual artist from Tehran (IRAN), currently based in Stockholm.
She is aiming to challenge the traditionally passive role of the observer and to melt the boundaries between the viewer, the work and the context. Her way of expressing herself is constantly in flux.
Zahra investigates the different ways of storytelling via objects, sculptures, video art and Installations - to create a narrative and invite visitors to interact with the work in different levels.
Language of materials plays a significant role in her artistic practice. She wants to encapsulate some features of touch as a sense: pleasure and pain, to challenge the utilitarian habit of touch and to stimulate the imagination. Her works are based in psychological, social and sometimes political commentary with ironic elements.
She has participated in many exhibitions. Since 2001 her work has been seen in venues such as The 5th Tehran sculpture of Tehran(2007), Three Generations of Iranian Sculptors(2010), Art habens art review (2015). Video instalments have been shown in Limited Access Four and five(festival for video) (2013-2014) and Stockholm Fringe Festival (2017), Manifesto: A moderate Proposal (2018), Supermarket Art Fair (2019), Persian Heritage for the World show in Cambridge (2019), SKF/Konstnärshuset Eldhunden (2020), …
